Dear Friends of Q’ewar,
Senor Julio, Director of
the Q’ewar Project, has written a newsletter (see below) and I will give you a
rendition here, in English.
- Since the beginning of August, Jana and Anne
from Germany,
have been volunteering at Q’ewar.
From the organization “Friends of Waldorf Education”, both are
greatly appreciated for offering social and cultural richness to their
work with the women and children of Q’ewar. On every other Thursday of the month,
they have organized “A Night of Culture”, with artistic activities
including violin and flute performances, teaching and singing songs and
now, helping make preparations for the Christmas celebrations. Anne has given to Q’ewar an important
donation of recorders with which she has started to give classes to three
groups of children and Jana is daily doing gymnastics with the workshop
women.
- September marked the beginning of a new
activity in working with the children of Wawa Munakuy. They prepared a celebration for the
Feast of St. Michael and with the help and experience of Anne and Jana,
the children made lanterns and learned new Michaelmas songs. On the 29th of September, the
children played afternoon games outside, testing their courage and
skill. On the onset of evening,
there was a grand parade of torches around the grounds of the Project
ending with everyone enjoying delicious cups of hot chocolate.
- The new schoolhouse construction has halted for
a time, giving the workmen time to attend to the labors of their
agricultural land, planting seeds of corn and potatoes. This must all be completed before the
heavy rains of summer come – now quite close. The installation of plumbing and the
positioning of the second floor doors in the schoolhouse are finished and
work will continue on plastering the walls with yeso. The new Wawa Munakuy should be dedicated
and opened in April, 2009.
- In addition, the water reservoir for
agricultural irrigation has been completed. It has a 60 cubic meter capacity and it
is positioned at the top of the terracing used for planting. Above this construction, on a second
story roof, an oven for firing ceramics will be installed. This will be utilized in future artistic
endeavors by the Q’ewar men who work daily at the Project.
- From October 11th to the 31st,
Lucy and Julio traveled to the USA ,
accepting the gracious invitation of our friends from Vermont : Senoras Margaret, Madelaine
and JoAnne, who in conjunction with the NGO Lukana’s Dream of Vermont,
paid for the entire trip. Julio and
Lucy were able to give a presentation at the Vermont
Law School
on the theme of domestic violence in Peru as well as discussing the
activities that the Q’ewar Project has implemented to attenuate this
social ill. This trip also served
to consolidate the ties of friendship that we have with all whom we know
in the USA
who have offered their support and help to the Project. To them we expressed our enduring
gratitude.
- We close our newsletter to you with our
goodbyes and hopes for very fulfilling and joyful celebrations of Advent,
Christmas and the New Year, in peace and human warmth.

Queridos Amigos de Q'ewar,
- Desde inicios de agosto, y durante un año, gracias a un convenio
realizado con la organizacion alemana "Amigos de la Pedagogia Waldorf"
- Freunde der Erziehungskunst Rudolf Steiners
e. V. en su programa "weltwaerts", tenemos trabajando al interior del
proyecto, a dos jovenes voluntarias, Jana Rux y Anne Knipfer. Es muy
estimado el aporte cultural y social que vienen realizando para el
bienestar de las mujeres y niños que a diario asisten al proyecto.
Jueves por medio tambien ellas han organizado una "Noche de la
cultura", donde se realizan actividades artisticas, se escucha musica
de violin, flauta, se entonan canciones, preparaciones previas a la
celebracion de la Navidad. Anne nos trajo una importante donacion de
flautas dulces con las que ha empezado a dar clases a tres grupos de
niños, y Jana realiza diariamente actividades gimnasticas con las
mujeres.
- Setiembre marco el inicio de una nueva actividad en el trabajo con
los niños de Wawa Munakuy. Preparandose ellos para la celebracion de la
Fiesta de Micael, y con la ayuda y experiencia de Anne y Jana, los
ninos empezaron a confeccionar faroles, y aprender canciones apropiadas
a esta celebración. Aquel dia 29, por la tarde los niños tuvieron
juegos al aire libre, con pruebas de valor y destreza. Al caer la noche
se organizo un gran desfile de faroles, por los alrededores del
proyecto, y de retorno les esperaban tazas con chocolate caliente.

La construccion de la nueva casa para la guarderia avanza con pausado
ritmo, dado que los hombres involucrados en esta tarea, deben atender
sus labores de siembra y aporque para sus cultivos de maiz y papa,
labores previas a la temporada de lluvias, que ya se avecina.
Actualmente ya se han realizado las instalaciones para el servicio de
agua y desague, colocacion de puertas en el segundo nivel, y avance en
el estucado con yeso, de las paredes del primer nivel. Estimamos poder
inaugurarla para abril 2009.
- Tambien se ha culminado la construccion de un reservorio de agua de
riego, de 60 metros cubicos de capacidad, en la parte alta del terreno,
que ha de servir para un mejor cultivo de verduras y hortalizas. Sobre
esta construccion actualmente se esta edificando un segundo piso
techado, a fin de convertirlo en un taller donde se ha de instalar un
horno de ceramica, para un futuro desarrollo laboral con los hombres
que asisten a diario al proyecto.
- Del 11 al 31 de octubre, Lucy y Julio viajaron a USA, gracias a una
gentil invitacion de nuestras amigas de Vermont, Sras. Margaret,
Madelaine y JoAnne, quienes, conjuntamente con la NGO Lukana's Dream de
Vermont, cubrieron todos los gastos de este viaje. Se realizo una
presentacion en el Vermont Law School,
acerca del tema de violencia domestica de género, y de las actividades
que el Proyecto Q'ewar realiza a fin de atenuar este mal social. Este
viaje tambien ha servido para afianzar los vinculos de amistad que
tenemos con todas las personas que desde alli, brindan su apoyo al
proyecto, a quienes les expresamos nuestra permanente gratitud.
- Nos despedimos de ustedes, con nuestros deseos de unas muy gratas
celebraciones de Adviento, Navidad y Año Nuevo, con paz y calor humano.
