Lots to report to you this month! Senor Julio sent me a detailed letter (for those who read Spanish, see end of this text) and here are the highlights.

The news that really stands out is the trip to Cali, Columbia by three of the Q’ewar women: Nidia, Nancy and Zoila (sister of Senor Julio). This trip was to participate in the first block of studies for Waldorf Education preschool teachers. Participants study from the 13th of July to the 15th of August. The funding for transportation and course fees came from the continued and much appreciated support of Senora Heidi in Switzerland and the Q’ewar Project itself.

With the building work on the new schoolhouse for Wawa Munakuy in the last stages (SEE the new photos on the Education page ), the Waldorf training is essential. Laying the wood floors; plastering and painting the adobe walls; and putting in the bathrooms and kitchens on the two floors are the finishing touches the construction workers are concentrating on now.

Q’ewar continues to have new visitors and return visits from friends around the world. For the third year in a row, 10 students and 2 teachers (Senora Julia and Senor Yezid) from the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School in Massachusetts came in April, bringing donations of clothing, games and educational material. They see old friends and help out where they can.

As is her custom for the past few years, Senora JoAnne, the U.S. Q’ewar doll distributor and Waldorf kindergarten master teacher came for her annual visit in April.

May and June brought newcomers Dacia and Tim to Q’ewar to volunteer their services in teaching typing, basic English, internet use, as well as helping in Wawa Munakuy and the Plaza Q’ewar shop. At the end of their visit, Tim presented all at Q’ewar with a marionette show – a play of his own and hand made marionettes! It was a treat for all!

Q’ewar is happy to have three new women join the Project. Josefina and Eusebia are working in the doll workshops; and Janet is helping out in Wawa Munakuy. All the women who work full time for a year, including the 10 construction workers, receive two weeks paid vacation during this time of the year.

Dr. Annette from Germany has given the Q’ewar Project two donations: One to increase the number of women working at the Project and the other to buy an oven for the making of ceramics. This new ceramic workshop will be housed in the building behind and above the main house and doll workshops and will be an alternative work opportunity for the men now working on the construction of the schoolhouse.

Also in the first half of 2008, Q’ewar has received donations for the construction of the schoolhouse and equipment for the playgroup at Wawa Munakuy from several non-profits: Lukanas Dream in Vermont, USA; The White Emperor Foundation in Switzerland and The Q’ewar Union Association in Switzerland. Private donations have been received from Dr. Sally in Massachusetts, USA, Senora Valerie in Michigan, USA, and Senora Ruedin in Switzerland. We are profoundly grateful for the generosity of all our friends around the world.

Thank you also to our new friends who have emailed asking to sell the Q’ewar dolls, either via their web-stores or their specialty shops. It is marvelous to know that the Q’ewar dolls are finding their way around the world into new and loving homes!

Queridos Amigos, 

A esta altura del año, la noticia mas resaltante que tenemos para comentarles, es el viaje a Cali - Colombia, de tres sras. integrantes del Proyecto - Nidia, Nancy, y Zoila, para participar en el Primer Bloque del Seminario de Formacion para Maestras de Preescolar en Pedagogia Waldorf, que se desarrolla entre el 13 de julio al 15 de agosto. El soporte de esta formacion, se realiza gracias al continuo apoyo que recibimos de Sra. Heidi Schmid, de Suiza, y tambien con fondos generados por nuestro proyecto.
 
La necesidad formativa para estas tres sras. dedicadas a la conduccion pedagogica de los niños de nuestra guarderia, va de la mano con los adelantos que se vienen realizando en la construccion de la nueva casa para la guarderia. Actualmente se esta trabajando en el revoque de las paredes, con yeso; colocacion de madera machiembrada en los pisos, y en la implementacion de baños y cocinas en los dos niveles de la casa.
 
Son continuas las visitas y permanencia de amigos y voluntarios extranjeros al interior del proyecto. Durante el mes de abril, del 17 al 24, recibimos a Sra. Dagmar Eisele, maestra Waldorf  del colegio de San Francisco, USA.
 
Del 17.04 al 24.04, por tercera vez consecutiva, con una frecuencia de año por medio, nos visitaron 10 alumnos del Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School de Massachusetts - USA, junto a dos colegas, Sra. Julia Nuñez y Sr. Yezid. Llegaron con donaciones de ropas, juguetes y material pedagogico, tambien realizaron trabajo voluntario al interior del proyecto.
 
Del 22.04 al 28.04 como ya es una muy grata costumbre anual, estuvo  con nosotros Sra. JoAnne Dennee, maestra Waldorf de Vermont, quien tambien es nuestra distribuidora de muñecas en USA.
 
Los esposos Dacia Christin y Tim Coombs permanecieron con nosotros durante los meses de mayo y junio, dandonos clases de mecanografia, ingles basico, manejo de internet y apoyo en la conduccion de la guarderia y la tienda que vende nuestros productos. Al termino de su voluntariado nos obsequiaron con una presentacion de marionetas, con argumento y confeccion realizados por Tim.

Felicia, una de las sras integrantes del taller de tejido a palitos, a solicitado licencia por un año, por maternidad. Tres nuevas sras. se han integrado al trabajo diario: Josefina y Eusebia en el taller de tejido, y  Janet en la guarderia. Todas las integrantes del proyecto, quienes trabajan a diario, incluidos diez hombres de la construccion, han recibido dos semanas de vacaciones pagadas, correspondientes a este medio año concluido.

Sra. Annette Massmann, directora de la Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklungshilfe
de Bochum - Alemania, nos hizo llegar dos donaciones de dinero, una para incrementar el numero de mujeres trabajando en el proyecto, y la otra para comprar un horno de ceramica, y asi implementar este taller, que ha de ser una alternativa laboral para los hombres que por ahora se dedican a realizar construcciones al interior del proyecto.

En lo que va del año, tambien hemos recibido donaciones de dinero, a fin de sostener la construccion y equipamiento de la guarderia, de parte de la ONG Lukanas Dream, de Vermont - USA; de la Fundacion White Emperor, de Suiza; y de la Asociacion Union Qewar, de Suiza. Aportes privados tambien nos han llegado, de parte de Sra. Sally Edwards, de Massachusetts - USA; Sra. Valerie Roedenbeck, de Ann Arbor - USA; y de Sra. Ruedin, Suiza. A todos ellos les expresamos nuestra profunda y permanente gratitud.
